Even at cruising altitude, it’s easy to lose your center

You wear your uniform with pride and stow the baggage of a high stakes and stress job where every decision influences the safety of those onboard. Long hours, jetlag, and constant travel means you spend more time with your crew than loved ones which can lead to mental fatigue, lack of groundedness and FOMO on life on the ground. When accessing supports comes with shame, and fear of job security it can leave you feeling alone are susceptible to burnout, stress, and PTSD.

At Purposeful Change Psychotherapy we help you check-in to calm the storm, process the personal and professional challenges unique to your career, so you can land your personal and professional goals.

Elli’s Story

A journey from high-altitude pressure to grounded emotional care

“I’ve lived the demands of commercial aviation – the jet lag, the high-stakes decisions, the isolation, and the quiet weight of composure. Now, I help others in the industry find steadiness, connection, and relief.”

Our Practice

Why aviation professionals choose us for therapy

We understanding the demands of flight and focus

With our in-house pilot turned therapist, we bring a true understanding of the precision your role demands, providing care under pressure whilst far from home and running on little rest. We understand the mental toll of safe take off’s, landings, managing post-flight decompression, maintaining focus under stress, or finding connection after weeks of distance. Therapy offers a space to be still

Grounded, evidence-based care

Our approach combines the science of trauma-informed care whilst understanding the reality of your world. We are trained in multiple therapies that help you regulate your nervous system, process cumulative stress, and strengthen relationships both on and off duty. Every session is designed to move you towards purposeful changes so you can live the life you work hard for.

Care that travels with you

Your schedule doesn’t always stay on the ground, so neither do we. With both in-person and secure online sessions, therapy can fit around your roster, not the other way around. Whether you’re on a layover, between flights, or back home resetting, support remains accessible, confidential, and reliable.

Therapy for every role in aviation

Whether you fly the route or support those who do, aviation demands precision, composure, and care. We help you navigate the emotional weight of your work so you can return to life on the ground with balance and presence.

What pilots and aviation professionals ask most

Do I need to book a consultation first?2025-10-08T02:07:16-04:00

You can book a session directly on the website although we do recommend a free confidential consultation with our Clinical Director. You’ll have the chance to share what’s been happening, ask questions, and be assisted in finding the therapist best suited to your goals.

Will this affect my license, medical clearance, or ability to fly?2025-10-08T02:07:44-04:00

No. Therapy at Purposeful Change Psychotherapy is completely confidential. We don’t share information with employers, aviation authorities, or medical examiners. Our role is to support your wellbeing, not report on it. If you require assistance with returning to work and want us to communicate with your employer, union, or insurance company we will work with you to support your goals whilst maintaining your right to confidential service.

How does therapy help aviation professionals specifically?2025-10-08T02:08:13-04:00

Aviation work demands focus, composure, and resilience. Therapy helps you regulate stress, process critical incidents, and strengthen your mental readiness both in flight and at home. It’s about restoring balance so you can keep performing at your best.

What kinds of outcomes have you seen with aviation clients?2025-10-08T02:09:16-04:00

Clients often report feeling calmer, sleeping better, reducing reliance on unhealthy coping strategies, communicating more easily with loved ones, and managing emotional fatigue more effectively. Many describe therapy as their “pre-flight checklist” for mental clarity and groundedness.

Do you have therapists who understand aviation culture?2025-10-08T02:09:55-04:00

Yes. Our team includes a psychotherapist who’s also a former pilot, along with clinicians who have worked with aviation professionals and are trained in trauma-informed care, performance psychology, and occupational stress specific to safety-sensitive professions.

Do you offer flexible scheduling around flight rosters or time zone changes?2025-10-08T02:10:14-04:00

Absolutely. We provide both in-person and secure online sessions to fit your schedule, whether you’re between flights, on reserve, or decompressing after a long rotation.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session last minute due to duty changes?2025-10-08T02:10:37-04:00

We understand how unpredictable rosters can be. We offer flexible schedules to help you work around your shift and reminder emails and text messages ahead of the late cancellation policy (48 hours).

Do you accept insurance?2025-10-08T02:10:58-04:00

Yes. Most aviation professionals with extended health benefits have coverage for psychotherapy under “Registered Psychotherapist.” Many clients have $0 out-of-pocket costs through providers like Sun Life, Manulife, and Canada Life.

Can therapy really help if I’ve been coping on my own for years?2025-10-08T02:11:23-04:00

Many aviation professionals are used to “pushing through,” managing long days, fatigue, and pressure in silence. You’ve likely built strong coping strategies just to keep functioning at a high level. Therapy doesn’t take that strength away. We help you look at what’s worked, what’s wearing you down, and where you can find steadier ground. Most clients are surprised by how quickly they feel relief once they’re not carrying everything alone.
