What can I expect from my first session?2024-10-30T00:29:55-04:00

Meeting your therapist at your first appointment is an essential first step in building rapport and setting the foundation for your goals in therapy. Your therapist will help you explore your challenges, recognizing that it can sometimes be hard to put feelings into words. Together, you’ll create a ‘blueprint’ of your life — an outline to approach your challenges with compassion and clarity, guiding the direction you want to grow in.

At Purposeful Change Psychotherapy, our outcomes-based approach ensures that your goals are aligned with meaningful results. By the end of your session, you’ll leave with a clear understanding of the purposeful changes you’re working towards. Most of our clients report feeling “lighter”, “clearer”, and “hopeful” after their first session.

Do I need to prepare for therapy sessions?2024-10-30T00:10:30-04:00

You don’t. The great thing about our approach is that your therapy room can be the one place you come exactly as you are. Your therapist is skilled at starting meaningful conversations, guiding you toward areas that will support your progress. You’re welcome to bring a notebook, pen, or open up your notes app to share thoughts you’ve gathered — or to jot down any of the valuable insights we’ll uncover together.

How do I know I need therapy?2024-10-30T00:10:43-04:00

If you’re struggling with emotional regulation, intrusive thoughts, relationship challenges, or unresolved issues from your past, psychotherapy may offer valuable support. Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of experiences, whether you have a formal diagnosis or not.

If you’ve been diagnosed with a mental health condition, or think you may have one, such as anxiety, depression, personality disorders, or trauma, working with a psychotherapist can help you manage symptoms and explore further treatment options.

Psychotherapy is also a powerful tool for personal growth, enhancing relationships, and finding connection. You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.

How long will I need therapy?2024-10-30T10:04:28-04:00

We offer therapy with your time, financial situation, resources, and unique needs in mind. Our sessions can be tailored to help you achieve meaningful progress within any specific timelines you may have. Many of our clients choose to continue working with their therapist over time as they experience lasting, positive changes and want to sustain and build on their progress.
